  • Creative director Ed Boon shared a new teaser trailer for "Mortal Kombat 11"
  • Fans think the teaser may be hinting that John Rambo will be the next DLC character
  • Some noticed that the teaser shared by Boon was similar to a scene from 1982's "First Blood"

The next DLC character for “Mortal Kombat 11” may be an icon of action movies from the 1980s.

When any DLC is announced, fan theories tend to go all over the place, but a new “Mortal Kombat 11” teaser seems to hint that John Rambo, the Vietnam War veteran portrayed by Sylvester Stallone in several films, is on his way to the fighting game from NetherRealm Studios.

The teaser shared on Twitter by “Mortal Kombat 11” creative director Ed Boon shows a Tarkatan running away from something in a forest. “Who is chasing that Tarkatan?” Boon wrote, along with the hashtags #KombatKontinues and #MK11.

Commenting on Boon's post, one Twitter user pointed out how similar the teaser was to a scene from 1982’s “First Blood,” the first Rambo film.

If the fan theory turns out to be true, the addition of Rambo to a roster already comprised of old favorites and some recent unique additions is sure to excite any owners of “Mortal Kombat 11.”

Some social media users seem to already be anticipating Rambo's arrival, while others aren't happy about his potential addition.

“#Rambo is such a poor choice for @MortalKombat #DLC (if the rumors are true). Hoping it's #AshWilliams, but that doesn't really make sense why he'd be A) chasing or B) in a forest,” one netizen commented.

“Rain mileena n rambo Will make mk11 amazing. Plz Release them All together like In aftermath. It gives the game a Huge huge burst of energy excitement n fun Mk11 needs this ASAP,” another wrote.

Fans won't need to wait for long, however, as the teaser trailer shared by Boon confirmed that an announcement is coming on Thursday.

Last year, the haunted anti-hero Spawn from Image Comics was introduced as part of the Kombat Pack DLC and voiced by veteran character actor Keith David. Another character from comics that crossed over into other media is the maniacal Joker, who was also part of this pack.

Joining them in the Kombat Pack was another strange addition to “Mortal Kombat 11,” the T-800 model Terminator that Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the “Terminator” franchise.

In May, aside from resident “Mortal Kombat” characters Fujin and Sheeva being part of the Aftermath DLC, half-human cyborg RoboCop also joined the game. Peter Weller, who played RoboCop in two films, voices the character.

Recently, some rumors have surfaced that the cast from the 1995 live-action “Mortal Kombat” movie may lend their voices to “Mortal Kombat 11,” including Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Bridgette Wilson-Sampras as Sonya Blade.

If Rambo is indeed on his way to “Mortal Kombat 11,” then he might fit right in with this roster of misfits and mismatched characters from action franchises of the past three decades.
