Warner Bros.’s foray into the platformer-brawler genre has officially started with “MultiVersus,” in which iconic characters under the company’s IP get to fight each other in chaotic 2.5D battles across colorful arenas.

Though “MultiVersus” is yet to reach its full 1.0 launch version, the developers have opened up an early access beta where players can test the game out. Everyone will be able to join the free-to-play beta, but the gates will be open a little earlier for some.

“MultiVersus” Open Beta Dates

The game’s beta start dates are actually separated into two. The first early access period will begin Tuesday, while the second start date is scheduled for July 26.

Early beta access is initially limited to only the select few who participated in the game’s closed beta. However, other people will be able to join this first phase by following these steps:

  • Register for a WB Games account
  • Watch any Twitch streamer play “Multiversus” with drops enabled for at least 60 minutes
  • Claim the associated Twitch drop
  • Claim the early access beta key for the platform of choice

Progress can be tracked on the “MultiVersus” website.

After following these steps, players should be able to enter the game during the early access phase between July 19 and 26. After this phase, everyone will be able to play “MultiVersus” by simply creating or logging on to their WB Games accounts and downloading the game from there.

What is “MultiVersus”?

“MultiVersus” is a competitive fighting game in the same vein as Nintendo’s “Super Smash Bros.” Here, players get to pick from a wide variety of characters from the Warner Bros. catalog, ranging from DC superheroes to cartoon characters from classic shows.

So far, there are 16 playable characters (with many more coming soon) in the game’s early development stage, including:

  • Superman
  • Batman
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Jake the Dog
  • Finn the Human
  • Shaggy
  • Velma
  • The Iron Giant

“MultiVersus” features an innovative 2v2 game mode as well as traditional 1v1 and four-player Free-For-All modes. Players can test their skills in Ranked Competitive ladders or have some casual fun against each other or versus bots via local play.

The game will release for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox X|S and PC.
