Since his mother had to work, Dominic would often stay with relatives. However, one of his family members began sexually abusing him. Although the abuse ended when Dominic grew older, the damage was already done.

“I never thought my life would end up like this,” Dominic said during the episode.

Dominic often turned to food for comfort and continued to use it as a coping mechanism when his mother became sick. Following his mother’s death, Dominic and his brother, James, became homeless and began living in his van.

“I feel I am in a nightmare because my life is such a mess right now in so many ways. But my living situation and health are my two biggest struggles right now because they are the worst they’ve ever been,” he said.

“I just feel like my world has fallen apart. Me and my brother live in my van because we are homeless, and my size makes my situation harder because of how I struggle now to fit places and do things.”

Despite their limited funds Dominic and James were able to travel to Houston and meet Dr. Nowzaradan. Unlike past patients, Dr. Now gave Dominic a more modest weight loss goal due to his living situation.

However, Dominic failed to meet Dr. Now’s standard and was not approved for the gastric bypass surgery. Despite the setback, Dominic continued to attend therapy to deal with his issues and by the end of the episode, he claimed he lost around 20 pounds since his last session with Dr. Now.

“My 600-LB Life” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
