"My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" is making sure to cover all the bases in its final season. The animated show will debut a lesbian couple in its ninth and final season.

In an upcoming episode, viewers will be introduced to Aunt Holiday and Aunt Lofty, a lesbian couple who care for the school-aged character Scootaloo. The episode, titled "My Last Crusade," has already been shown overseas but will make its U.S. debut on Saturday.

Michael Vogel, a writer and producer on the show, confirmed the news in a tweet back in October 2017. And now, just in time for Pride Month, Vogel shared on Twitter on Monday how he and his fellow coworkers are doing what they can "to bring more EQuality to EQuestria."

When it comes to whose idea it was to create an LGBT couple for the series, the effort was a collaborative one. Comic Beats reports it all started with getting the characters approved for the 2017 book "Ponyville Mysteries: Riddle of the Rusty Horseshoe." Vogel, along with showrunners, Nicole Dubuc and Josh Haber, all pushed for this to happen.

"Nicole and I thought this was a great opportunity to organically introduce an LGBTQ couple in the series, and we asked Hasbro and they approved it," Vogel told BuzzFeed News. "Diversity and representation are important for kids for so many reasons, and it’s my first priority on everything I work on."

Vogel further explained, "With Josh and Nicole running the final season together, it was something we all wanted to do — bring this out couple into the final season and make them 'officially' a part of the MLP world."

My Little Pony airs Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. EST on Discovery Family.
