National Compliment Day falls on Jan. 24 every year to remind us of the importance of appreciating and praising someone.

Kathy Chamberlin and Debby Hoffyman of New Hampshire established National Compliment Day in 1998 with the strong belief that giving compliments is the easiest and the most positive way to connect with another human being.

Giving a positive word of appreciation is believed to be the most powerful tool that can help transform human relationships. According to psychologists, when a person makes a compliment, both the receiver and the person giving the compliment become happier, in turn creating a positive environment around them.

Complimenting is the best way to motivate people to work harder and studies have shown that less motivated people end up performing poorly at work.

National Compliment Day can be best celebrated by making a sincere word of appreciation to people around you, be it your family members you love or colleagues at work.
