"Overwatch" fans have plenty of fun content to soak up before the release of "Overwatch 2."

Mercy fans in particular got a heaping helping of lore to pore over before the new game debuts in the future, in the form of a new short story that went live on the Play Overwatch website.

The brief story, called "Valkyrie," is written from the perspective of Mercy, or Dr. Angela Ziegler, herself. It includes several illustrated segments featuring the character clad in her original outfit: a white lab coat, black tank top, and maroon pants while out in the field doing her job. It's a very personal look into the character's mindset, and a great short read for anyone interested in furthering their understanding of the "Overwatch" lore.

"I never wanted to be Mercy," she laments in the story. "It was something that was thrust upon me. The Valkyrie suit was to prove a point: that my technology worked. But I knew how other people saw me. How my teammates wanted me shoulder to shoulder with them. And so, little by little, Dr. Ziegler withdrew, and Mercy took her place." It's an intriguing story that shines plenty of light into a character that's always seemed too altruistic, to consider that she may not have always been cut out for or interested in being the healing presence she's become over the course of the "Overwatch" fandom.

In addition to this swath of new Mercy-related content, there's a new event taking place from Tuesday (Nov. 12) through Dec. 2. You can win three games to earn one Mercy player icon, win six games to earn two new spray, and win nine games in total to earn a new legendary Mercy skin, where she's dressed as in her original profession: a doctor in her white lab coat as Dr. Ziegler.

This is a radical departure from many "Overwatch" events, where you need to win games to earn loot boxes to get the event-specific goodies. This event will require players only to win a few games, and playing as Mercy is not required.

With "Overwatch 2" on its way at some point, it looks like Blizzard is ramping up the events related to the game to get fans pumped.
