A brand-new first-person shooter set in the “Warhammer 40,000” universe is currently under development, and it will put players in the boots of a bounty hunter in one of the most notorious Hive Worlds in the franchise.

“Necromunda: Hired Gun” is a fast-paced single-player action shooter made by Streum On Studio, the team behind the cult-classic “E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy.” The game is set in the crime-ridden underbelly of a Hive city on the planet of Necromunda, one of the Imperium of Man’s largest sources of small arms and elite soldiers.

Players will face three powerful gangs that rule the lower reaches of the Hive: the industrious House Orlock, the all-female chem dealers of House Escher and the hulking brutes of House Goliath. The game will also have heretic forces and mutants added to its already-diverse mix of enemies.

A trailer was revealed on social media featuring a few snippets of gameplay.

The game will feature high-mobility gameplay with wall running, empowered movement and grappling hooks. The combat resembles that of “Doom” or classic arena shooters like “Quake III” and “Unreal Tournament” in terms of pace.

Hired Gun” will have bounty hunter customization and a wide arsenal of weapons to choose from; all of which are accurate with the established lore of the “Warhammer 40k” universe. Players will get to pick from Necromundan shotguns, autorifles, plasma weapons and bolters. Each weapon can be upgraded and augmented “endlessly,” according to the game’s Steam page.

Apart from guns, players will also have a loyal cyber-mastiff. This pet will be an important companion for players as they hunt down their targets, but specific details about how the dog will help players during missions have not yet been revealed. However, the cyber-mastiff will also have its own upgrade tree and a large selection of augments that will boost its hunting capabilities.

“Necromunda: Hired Gun” is set to release on June 1. This is the second “Warhammer 40k” FPS title that’s scheduled for release this year, with the other one being “Warhammer 40,000: Darktide,” a four-player coop shooter from “Vermintide” developers Fatshark.

“Darktide” is set in a different Hive city that’s been overwhelmed by the forces of Chaos, and it will feature the same blend of melee and ranged combat as seen in Fatshark’s previous “Warhammer” titles.
