A newborn baby died after allegedly choking on milk at her home in Malaysia on Saturday.

The 20-day-old baby’s unidentified father found her unconscious at their home and immediately contacted a local clinic. The medical staff arrived at the home and declared the baby dead.

"The father contacted the clinic at about 10a.m. on Saturday when he realised his child was unconscious while they were at home in Tanjung Kupang. Medical staff from the clinic arrived shortly after and pronounced the baby dead," Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said, the Star reported.

The baby’s body was sent for an autopsy which revealed that she had a heart problem due to which she choked on milk.

"The autopsy results revealed that the baby had a hole in her heart. There were no criminal elements found," the officer said, New Straits Times reported.

Investigation into the case was closed and the case was classified as sudden death.

In a similar incident in Malaysia in 2018, a four-month-old baby died after choking on milk. The boy, identified as Yusof Al-Baihakki Zainal Abidin, was at a nursery when the caregiver fed him milk following which the boy went to sleep. When the caregiver tried to wake him up a while later, she realized that he was unconscious. She immediately informed his mother and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. Medical examination confirmed there were no injuries or wounds on the baby. The case was classified as sudden death.

His father told local media that he had dropped his son off at the nursery before going for work. It was the boy’s sixth day at the nursery as he was previously looked after by his grandmother.

"I am sad, which father won’t be, if his son is gone...I had to wait for almost eight years to get a second child," he told the local media.
