In a shocking incident, a newborn kept on a warmer in a hospital charred to death in India. The family of the infant has alleged the hospital staff of negligence and murder.

The incident happened Sunday in a hospital in Kaushumbi, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The family accused that the staff at the hospital was busy on their cellphones while the baby boy was kept on the warmer. They also allege that the staff noticed the baby only when smoke emanated from the machine, The New Indian Express reported.

According to reports, the baby died after he was burned on the chest, back and abdomen. The child's tragic death agitated the victim's family who made a ruckus at the hospital and filed a complaint against the hospital.

Manish Pandey, an investigating officer, told the outlet that they have started an investigation based on a complaint filed by the infant's father, identified as Junaid.

According to the criminal complaint, the deceased child's mother, identified as Mahelika, from Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh, gave birth in the hospital Saturday evening. The infant was immediately shifted to a Sick New Born Care Unit (SNCU) in the same hospital after the child's doctors found him "unhealthy."

After the infant was transferred to the special care unit, the family was reportedly not allowed to see him the whole night.

When the newborn's grandmother visited the child Sunday morning, she reportedly noticed that the infant's body was blue. She also said that there was smoke emanating from the child's body. The staff reportedly apologized and left when the family questioned them about it.

Another family member who tried to visit the child in SNCU early Sunday morning reportedly saw the staff busy on their mobile phones. He said he also did not get any response from them.

"A probe would be conducted into the unfortunate incident and strictest action would be taken against the guilty," Dr. Deepak Seth, Chief Medical Officer said, as reported by Granthshala.
