Apart from the Pixel C tablet that was launched last year, Google has no other Nexus branded tablet listed in the Google Store. Speculations suggest that the company is working on a Nexus 7 (2016) tablet that may get unveiled in August this year.

During the Google I/O 2016 event, Google did not unveil a new Nexus device. The company is known for unveiling its new Android OS preinstalled on a new Nexus device. Currently, the Android N OS is currently in its beta stage. It has been officially confirmed that its final build will be available by late summer.

Google has stopped the sales of Nexus 9 tablets. This suggests that the search engine giant may introduce a new tablet later this year. However, there is no concrete information available on how many Nexus devices will be launched this year.

Google and HTC are speculated to be working on two Android N devices that are codenamed as M1 (Marlin) and S1 (Sailfish). These devices are expected to launch as Nexus 2016 smartphones to replace the Nexus 5X and 6P smartphones.

Huawei had filed a trademark for “Huawei 7P” in April with United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Hence, speculations also hinting that Google and Huawei are building a 7-inch tablet.

As far as rumored specs are concerned, the Nexus 7 (2016) tablet is speculated to arrive with a 7-inch display that will support Quad HD resolution. It will be powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Other rumors indicate that it may feature Snapdragon 625 chipset. It goes without saying that the tablet would arrive preloaded with Android N OS.

Speculations suggest that the final version of Android N will be made public in August. Hence, Nexus 7 (2016) tablet is expected to get announced in the same month.
