  • Nintendo and Puma look to release a pair of Puma RS Dreamers with Super Mario branding to commemorate the "Super Mario Bros." 35th anniversary
  • The sneakers were posted on the Australian edition of FootLocker.com before it was subsequently taken down
  • Following collaborations with LEGO and Uniqlo, this would be the latest tie-up to commemorate this significant milestone for Nintendo

A supposed collaboration between Nintendo and Puma indicates that a pair of sneakers would feature significant Super Mario branding to coincide with the 35th anniversary of "Super Mario Bros."

Video Games Chronicle reports that a listing for “PUMA x Nintendo RS Dreamers” was reportedly spotted on the Australian edition of FootLocker’s website. It has since been pulled, but that could indicate that an official announcement is forthcoming.

Prior to this, Nintendo has already entered into a couple of licensing deals to commemorate the Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary which will be on Sept. 13. One of these is a special interactive LEGO Mario set featuring a Nintendo Entertainment System.

The other major deal was a range of clothing from Uniqlo specifically including iconography from the “Super Mario Bros.” video game series including Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and others.

Special Super Mario versions of Monopoly and Jenga were released in July, while two officially licensed Nintendo Switch Super Mario controllers arrived this month.

Earlier this year, there were also indications that Nintendo planned to celebrate the Super Mario Bros. anniversary with several major releases. Among them were plans to re-release most of Super Mario’s 35-year back catalogue this year, remastered for Nintendo Switch. This would include 1996’s “Super Mario 64,” 2002’s “Super Mario Sunshine” and 2007’s “Super Mario Galaxy.”

There were also rumors that Nintendo planned to release other Mario-related titles in 2020 such as a Deluxe version of “Super Mario 3D World” from 2013 as well as a new installment in the “Paper Mario” series. This was later revealed to be “Paper Mario: The Origami King).

If E3 had taken place as scheduled in June, Nintendo was expected to have a huge presence and would have taken the occasion to make an announcement regarding the 3D collection. However, the COVID-19 pandemic rendered the event moot and the glitzy announcement was canceled along with it.

Recently, it was announced that Nintendo will be delaying the release of the Mario Switch remasters beyond the upcoming 35th anniversary to give more time for proper preparations. The delay was supposedly targeting an announcement closer to December to coincide with the Christmas season.
