Over 70 former Republican national security officials from agencies such as the FBI and CIA are set to endorse Democratic nominee Joe Biden in a full-page ad that will be published Friday in the Wall Street Journal. The statement characterizes President Trump as corrupt and incompetent.

"We are profoundly concerned about the course of our nation under the leadership of Donald Trump," the group says in the open letter.

"Through his actions and his rhetoric, Trump has demonstrated that he lacks the character and competence to lead this nation and has engaged in corrupt behavior that renders him unfit to serve as President.

"While we – like all Americans – had hoped that Donald Trump would govern wisely, he has disappointed millions of voters who put their faith in him and has demonstrated that he is dangerously unfit to serve another term. In contrast, we believe Joe Biden has the character, experience, and temperament to lead this nation."

Former CIA chief and former National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Hayden, former Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center Michael Leiter, and former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel are some of the officials that signed onto the message.

The group behind the letter, Former Republican National Security Officials for Biden, includes former defense and intelligence officials that served under Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, as well as Trump.

There are also multiple other Republican anti-Trump groups pushing out advertisements against the current commander-in-chief.

The Lincoln Project, a political action committee, was formed by conservative attorney George Conway, political strategist Steve Schmidt and several other Republican figures. The group’s goal is to “defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box.” Republicans for the Rule of Law, a group started by neoconservative political analyst Bill Kristol and several other anti-Trump Republicans, has described itself as "life-long Republicans dedicated to defending the institutions of our republic and upholding the rule of law.”

Trump has previously said that anti-Trump Republicans are “human scum.” He has also referred to the Lincoln Project as “the Losers Project.”
