Whispers about the arrival of “Overwatch 2” started when Kotaku reported about it a few months ago. With BlizzCon 2019 drawing near more leaks about the second iteration of Blizzard’s popular game is making rounds online. One of these includes the alleged game modes and maps of the heavily speculated game.

Recently, ESPN reports that “Overwatch 2” would be announced at Blizzard’s upcoming event in Nov 2019. The game will reportedly introduce a new hero, will have a PvE centered story mode, and a multiplayer mode, reveals training documents obtained by the site. But, among all the leaks, one crucial detail is not clear, and that is, whether or not “Overwatch 2” will be a standalone sequel of the original title or just some kind of expansion.

The same site is reporting today that “Overwatch 2” is more of “Overwatch: Chapter 2” similar to what “Fortnite” recently went through. If this is accurate, this is more interesting for fans and gamers, considering that Blizzard has now found a new strategy to make the game more interesting, aside from adding more maps and game modes to the classic game. For instance, “Overwatch 2” will introduce a four-player PvE story mission set in Rio de Janeiro.

Based on “Overwatch” lore, Rio de Janeiro used to be a battlefield at the time of the Omnic Crisis, which “Overwatch” played a significant role in defeating the Omnics. “Overwatch 2” reportedly will introduce the first game mode since the original game was released in beta way back 2015. In addition to the Control, Assault, Escort, and Hybrid game modes, the upcoming chapter will bring Push, which is reportedly set on a new map based in Toronto.

“Overwatch 2” despite being presumably a chapter of “Overwatch” will be a major BlizzCon 2019 announcement given the set of new maps and game modes that it will introduce. Interestingly, ESPN also claims that “Overwatch 2” will introduce a new hero, Echo, to join the game. Earlier rumors revealed that Blizzard would no longer release a new hero for “Overwatch.”

Assuming that “Overwatch 2” is technically a full rebrand of the current game, the previous rumors appeared to be true.
