Rumors began to spread on the blogosphere that Palm was delaying the launch of its Palm Pre, prompting Palm to set the record straight on Twitter.

Palm Pre still on track for first half of 2009, Palm tweeted on Wednesday after Jason Hiner posted a link on Twitter saying that a Palm design employee had tipped him that the Pre would be delayed.

The Palm officially announced the Pre on January 8 this year.

Palm reported preliminary results for its third quarter on Tuesday, and predicted revenue between $85 million and $90 million. Compare that to average analyst forecasts of $155 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Palm also announced on Tuesday that its Palm Treo Pro will be released on March 15 with a two-year contract on the Sprint network.

Meanwhile, there is a scheduled Sprint and Palm webcast on Thursday, March 12 that is undoubtedly concerning the Pre. The Webcast starts at 2 p.m. EST with 20 minutes scheduled for the presentation and 20 minutes for Q&A session.

According to an e-mail from the company, Palm will also highlight three key differentiators that make the Pre a “standout in the smartphone device category.”
