KEY POINTS

  • Pandora has added Siri support on its Apple Watch app
  • Apple Watch users can now ask Siri to play their favorite music on Pandora
  • The move comes weeks after Spotify released its own update with Siri support

Pandora updated its music streaming app on the Apple Watch to add a few cool features that will make it easier to use without the need for an iPhone.

Apple Watch users who listen to their favorite music via the Pandora app will be glad to know that the app has been updated to add a few features, specifically relating to Siri. The update was released Wednesday this week, and is now available for download via the App Store, Cult of Mac noted.

The update allows Apple Watch users to do more in the Pandora app without the need for an iPhone. Now, users will only need to tell Siri whatever they want to do with the music streaming app, whether it's to play stations, specific songs, certain albums, and podcasts. Users will only need to say something like “Hey Siri, play Thumbprint Radio on Pandora,” the service said in the release notes.

In addition to getting Siri to do all of those things mentioned above, users can also tell Siri if they like or do not like a song that's being played. The command sounds like “Hey Siri, I like this song.”

Premium users even get more benefits. First, users will be able to add songs to a specific playlist by telling Siri about it. Users will only need to say something like “Hey Siri, add [song name here] to my collection on Pandora.”

These new features will give users more control of their Pandora playlists and songs, without the need to use an iPhone. Previously, users looking for specific songs needed to use their iPhones to do it. Now, they only need to tell Apple's digital assistant about it.

Weeks after

Pandora's Apple Watch app update comes weeks after rival music streaming service Spotify also released its own update to add support for Siri.

Spotify's update allowed users to command Siri to play their favorite music, whether it's a specific track or a complete album, simply by adding the phrase “on Spotify” at the end of every query – “Hey Siri, play [insert track name here] on Spotify.”

Pandora's update to the Apple Watch indicates that the Cupertino tech giant is now allowing its music streaming rivals to gain a better footing.
