Michigan police were investigating a case of animal cruelty after a video of a man punching a pet dog multiple times was uploaded to Snapchat on Thursday.

Macomb County Animal Control reached out to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office on Friday after receiving several emails regarding the incident. Officers traced the video to a home and executed a search warrant over the weekend. However, neither the man nor the dog was at home when the investigators executed the warrant.

The disturbing video showed the shirtless man climbing onto the sofa and punching the canine multiple times. Speaking about the video, Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo said, “I feel like someone’s holding the dog and then you have the person punching the dog.”

The other person, not seen in the video, films the act and does not stop the abuse.

“You watch this crime being committed and this dog being tortured and then to me, it’s almost as if you proudly put it on Snapchat for everyone to see,” said Chief Randazzo.

Meanwhile, investigators were looking at finding the dog at the earliest to ensure that it was doing well. They also wanted to interrogate the people involved in the act. Anybody with any information was requested to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

In a similar incident in Florida earlier this month, a dog owner was caught on camera pinning his pet to the ground and punching it repeatedly. Police interrogated 28-year old Joshua Schlotmann after the video of the incident went viral on social media. Schlotmann was taken into custody and charged with animal cruelty following a police interrogation.

“The abuse was captured by way of Ring video. The male in the video appeared to pin the dog to the ground and deliver three closed-fisted blows to the canine,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office had said.
