A dog owner was arrested after he was caught on camera punching his pet repeatedly. The incident took place in Lehigh Acres, Florida, on Sunday.

In a Facebook post, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the abuse was captured by the doorbell camera of a homeowner.

“On Sunday, September 8, 2019, the Lee County Sheriff's Office became aware of a video depicting a male physically abusing a dog in the area of Hannah Ave South and 17th Street SW in Lehigh Acres. The abuse was captured by way of Ring video. The male in the video appeared to pin the dog to the ground and deliver three closed-fisted blows to the canine,” the Facebook post read.

After the video of the abuse went viral on social media, deputies arrived at the scene and interviewed the dog’s owner, identified as 28-year old Joshua Schlotmann. Following interrogation, Schlotmann was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and inflicting pain/serious injury to an animal.

Meanwhile, the Lee County Domestic Animal Services removed the dog, named Thanos, from the home and the canine remained in their care.

“Not here. Not now. Not ever. I’ll keep throwing these abusers into jail until they get the message that I won’t stand for it!” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

The incident comes days after a dog owner was caught on camera dragging and spitting on his injured pet during a walk in Perth, Australia. The video of the incident showed the man getting angry on the limping canine for stopping several times during the walk. He then drags the canine while hitting and spitting on it. The video of the incident went viral on Facebook with over one million views. The incident was being investigated by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
