The second global mission in “Pokémon Sun and Moon” already started on Tuesday. For players who have yet to jump into the in-game event due to the holiday celebrations, there are a couple of reasons why you should join the mission before it expires early next year.

In November, Game Freak and Nintendo surprised “Pokémon Sun and Moon” players when the games' first global mission went live. As 2016 is nearing its final moments, the developer and publisher are once again back to gift everyone with an incredible opportunity to have a holiday blast with the two new Pokémon games. The second global event already commenced on Dec. 27 and it will run until Jan. 9, as per GearNuke.

The second global mission does not have an absurd goal like the first mission. It can be noted that the November event tasked players to catch 100 million Pokémon. Because the goal was incredibly large, the gaming community did not realize it as players only managed to catch 16.5 million Pokémon throughout the duration of the global event.

For the second global mission, Game Freak and Nintendo decided to set the bar lower by asking players to catch or defeat 1 million Pokémon within the two weeks that the event is live. Knowing that this is a mission, there is a catch on how to achieve the goal: The Pokémon that will be counted for the global event are only those discovered through the Island Scan feature of the games.

In order for players to access the Island Scan feature, they should first accumulate 100 points in QR codes. Geek reports that each player should find 10 different QR codes in-game per day. Once the Island Scan feature is unlocked, players can easily discover Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and other regions in the previous installments. Players should catch or defeat as many of these Pokémon as possible in order for the second mission to be counted as a success.

The news about the new global event comes amid Amazon’s announcement that “Pokémon Sun” and “Pokémon Moon” topped the best-selling list of games for the holiday season (November to December). The other title to emerge victorious in the list is “Final Fantasy XV” for PS4, as first reported by GameSpot.
