Three Texas police officers were shot after responding to a domestic disturbance call in Cedar Park, Texas, on Sunday. The case has since turned into a hostage situation and at press time, is still ongoing.

The incident began at around 3 p.m. after a man kicked down the door at his mother’s home and began “acting very aggressive,” said Mike Harmon, interim police chief for the Cedar Park Police Department, as reported by ABC News. When officers arrived on the scene, they “were met with gunfire.” It is unknown if the suspect sustained any injuries.

After the exchange, the suspect barricaded himself, his mother, a juvenile, and a third person inside of the home, resulting in a hostage situation. The man, who is in his mid-20s, is believed to suffer from mental health issues.

According to the Cedar Park Police Twitter account, the area is still an active scene as of 8 a.m. EDT Monday. Two of the hostages have been released. Authorities have yet to take the suspect into custody.

Following the shooting, Harmon told reporters that he has "personally been in contact" with the three injured officers and shared that they are doing well after receiving medical attention. USA Today reports two of the officers were released from medical care on Sunday night. The third officer went into surgery Monday morning.

Local residents have been warned to stay indoors until authorities are able to secure the area.

“We do have a message for the suspect inside, and please take this to heart. We want to end this peacefully for everybody involved. For the suspect inside, for the hostages that are inside, for the officers that are on the scene, for everybody,” the police chief pleaded.

“So please, if you’re listening to this, please come out and surrender yourself peacefully so we can resolve this situation tonight,” he added.
