Democratic nominee Joe Biden continues to lead Republican President Donald Trump in the key swing states of Pennsylvania and Florida, according to Quinnipiac University polls released Thursday.

In Pennsylvania, Biden leads Trump by 8 points, 52% to 44%. In Florida, Biden has a slimmer 3-point lead over the incumbent, 48% to 45%.

Trump held off Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in both states in 2016. Pennsylvania has 20 votes in the electoral college, with Florida carrying 29 votes.

Biden spent his youth in Scranton, a rust-belt city in northeastern Pennsylvania. Biden's campaign headquarters are in the Democratic stronghold of Philadelphia.

In Florida, Biden is seeking a stronger Democratic turnout than Clinton. Florida has a large retiree population and recent surveys show senior voters moving toward Biden due to Trump’s handling of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Trump has also sought cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Recent general election polls show Biden with a strong nationwide lead over Trump. An Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday showed Biden with an 11-point nationwide lead over Trump, 51% to 40%.
