Prince Andrew reportedly outshone his older brother, Prince Charles, and was favored more by their dad Prince Philip.

In “Prince Andrew: The War Hero from Buckingham Palace,” book author Jessica Jayne said that Prince Andrew was the son that the Duke of Edinburgh always wanted. After all, Prince Philip wanted to have a tough boy and not a sensitive son like Prince Charles.

“Andrew inherited his father’s charm and looks as well as the Mountbatten arrogance. He was the only one who could shake his father out of one of his famous sulks,” she wrote (via Express).

It was also revealed in the 2012 book that as the royal siblings grew up, it became obvious that Queen Elizabeth II also favored Prince Andrew over Prince Charles. Among all of her children, it was Prince Andrew that the Queen shielded away from the public to the point that there were some speculations saying that he was deformed.

The Queen also doted on Prince Andrew because he was extroverted, charming, and mischievous. Compared to Prince Charles, who was quiet and obedient, Prince Andrew was a boisterous young boy. And whenever Her Majesty would hear that Prince Andrew was at the palace, she would immediately send him a note and drop by to see him.

After the monarch gave birth to Prince Andrew, she wrote a letter to her cousin, Lady Mary Cambridge, and called her son adorable.

“The baby is adorable, and is very good, and putting on weight well. Both the elder children are completely riveted by him, and all in all, he’s going to be terribly spoilt by all of us, I’m sure,” she gushed.

When Prince Charles and Prince Andrew got older, the latter wounded his brother’s vanity by becoming the dashing prince of the royal family. In the book “Charles, Prince of Wales,” author Anthony Holden said that Prince Charles got upset at Prince Andrew once.

“Prince Andrew’s dashing good looks began to steal some of Charles’ thunder, wounding his vanity and causing a few acid remarks. ‘Ah, the one with the Robert Redford looks?’ Charles would say when asked about Prince Andrew’s progress,” Holden wrote (via Express).
