Prince Charles will need to move to a new home when he becomes king.

The Prince of Wales will be forced to leave Clarence House and move to Buckingham Palace when he takes over the throne from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. A number of experts have said that Prince Charles doesn’t find this palace a “viable future home,” but he has no choice.

“There is absolutely no doubt that, when he becomes King, Prince Charles will be based at Buckingham Palace,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express. “It could not be otherwise as it is and will continue to remain the world famous headquarters of the British monarchy. ”

A Clarence House spokesperson confirmed to Daily Star that Buckingham Palace will be Prince Charles’ residence when he becomes the new monarch just as it is now for the Queen. But the future king dubbed the 775-room palace as the "big house" and wanted to make it a museum instead.

Prince Charles reportedly feels that Buckingham Palace is not sustainable to live in and maintain, in terms of cost and the environmental perspective. However, no matter what his perceptions are, Fitzwilliams said he believes that it is still the perfect place for a monarch.

“Buckingham Palace connects the monarch to the people as no other landmark does,” Fitzwilliams explained.

For instance, the royals appear on Buckingham Palace’s balcony for the monarch’s birthday after Trooping the Colour. It’s also the perfect setting for rejoicing during the Queen’s Jubilee, not to mention it looks splendid when bedecked with flags during a head of state visit. Also, thousands of tourists flock there to see the Changing of the Guard, which will have no purpose if the monarch will not be staying there.

Meanwhile, Royal Central editor Charlie Proctor commented that it’s also possible for Prince Charles to still keep Clarence House, their current home, even after the Queen dies. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have been living there for 15 years, and no one would want to leave their perfect home.

In related news, the majority of the public apparently prefers Kate Middleton to be the next queen consort instead of Camilla Parker Bowles, according to a new survey to determine the Duchess of Cornwall's popularity. Seventy-eight percent of the people who responded voted for Middleton, while only 11 percent supported Camilla. This also means that Prince William may be the preferred person to take over the throne instead of Prince Charles.
