Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had to make a tough decision on whether or not they would release their son’s photo with Queen Elizabeth II in black and white.

Two days after Archie Harrison’s birth, the palace dropped a beautiful snap of Her Majesty and Prince Philip meeting their great-grandson for the first time. The photo also featured Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, who is staring lovingly at her first grandchild.

The royal family’s latest photo was initially released in black and white, and there could be a reason why this was the case. Photography expert Glenn Gratton told Daily Mail that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex definitely put a lot of thought into the first photos of their son that they would release to the public.

“It’s the first picture of the baby and that’s going to be Googled for years and she wants to make sure it’s right. She would have thought it all through, long and hard,” he said.

Opting for a black and white photo for Archie Harrison and the royal family was ideal because it was complimentary on their skin tones.

“Take someone who is red-headed or pale-skinned – it is flattering for them. It just looks beautiful, it’s very forgiving,” he said.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Markle and Prince Harry released a black and white photo to mark an important occasion in their lives. Last year, they surprised royal fans with an uncolored photo taken during their wedding, and they shared it with the public on Christmas Day.

In the photo, Prince Harry and Markle’s backs are turned towards the camera. They are staring at the beautiful fireworks that were displayed during their evening wedding reception. Prince Harry and Markle are holding each other’s waists and the Duke of Sussex is also holding his wife’s hand.

Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The couple will celebrate their first anniversary this month.
