Prince Harry reportedly didn’t want to be a celebrity.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gained a lot of fans when their romance blossomed. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became an instant favorite among royal fans, but this was actually not how Prince Harry pictured himself. In fact, he was reportedly ashamed of his royal title once.

In the 2018 documentary “The Story of the Royals,” David Wiseman revealed that Prince William’s brother enjoyed his time with the military because it allowed him to be a normal person.

"Prince Harry, from the very beginning, did not want to be a celebrity,” he said.

Wiseman added that Prince Harry didn’t want to be a famous member of the monarchy. The royal prince was already happy being part of the army.

In 2007, the plans for Prince Harry to serve didn’t push through due to a reported security threat. The foreign media leaked Prince Harry’s secret deployment and the royal was left “devastated” because he was pulled out. In addition, Prince Harry couldn’t stomach the reports treating him a hero when he knew for a fact that he wasn’t.

“Prince Harry was somewhat embarrassed by the fact that he was pulled out because he was a famous celebrity and the assumption he would be targeted by insurgents,” Wiseman continued.

In a press conference, Prince Harry directly denied that he was a hero. “No, I wouldn’t say I am a hero,” he said.

The Duke of Sussex instead highlighted those men who got injured during their deployment. According to Prince Harry, there were two injured guys who joined them on the plane. One had lost two of his limbs, a left arm and a right leg, the other guy was saved by his mate’s body being in the way.

Even if Prince Harry is no longer serving in the military, he has not stopped supporting them. The Duke of Sussex is the patron of Invictus Games, an international adaptive multi-sport event for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans.

Last year, Prince Harry gave a speech at the Veteran's Mental Health Conference at King's College London. In his speech, the Duke of Sussex stressed that the veterans should be prioritized and encouraged everyone to put aside individual brands and publicity for their sake.
