Prince William couldn't hold his surprise after receiving a present for son Prince George.

The Duke of Cambridge is in Newcastle and Gateshead for the Great Exhibition of the North. During his visit, he received a gift for his 5-year-old son. It was a little black and white Newcastle United football shirt with the name George and the number 3 printed on the back.

In the video shared by Mirror, Prince William was caught raising his eyebrows, exclaiming "Oh my goodness!" and grimacing before pulling the shirt and showing it to the press smiling. The gift was presented to the duke by Sir Gary Verity chairman of the Great Exhibition of the North.

"It's very kind," Prince William told Sir Gary, before adding, "This is going to make my football team discussions a lot harder."

Kate Middleton's husband is an avid fan and supporter of Aston Villa. In fact, he was photographed watching their game while Middleton was heavily pregnant with Prince Louis last April. A number of fans raised their concern about the Duchess of Cambridge on Twitter.

"His missus is heavily pregnant and Prince William is off gallivanting at the Aston Villa match," one user wrote.

"I really don't get the Prince William - Aston Villa thing?" another user said.

The Duke of Cambridge also joined the crowd at Wembley Stadium to support Aston Villa's match against Fulham in the Premier League final a week after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding. Unfortunately, the royal's bet lost the game.

"A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United or Chelsea fans and I didn't want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams," Prince William explained.

"I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments," he added.

Prince William and Middleton's children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have inherited his fondness for the team. The Duchess of Cambridge revealed this to 9-year-old student Brian Mulonbi.

"Kate told me that George and Charlotte love putting on Villa kits. I told her I am an Arsenal fan, so I don't really like Villa kits," Mulonbi said.

"I have to be loyal to my husband!" the Duchess of Cambridge responded.
