KEY POINTS

  • Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly avoiding "Harry & Meghan" and have asked aides to watch it instead
  • William reportedly told a friend that he had no plans to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's documentary
  • The relationship between the royal brothers reportedly remains strained

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have no plans to watch "Harry & Meghan," reports have claimed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix docuseries concluded this week with its final three episodes, but the Duke of Sussex's older brother and sister-in-law are "avoiding" the show, an anonymous palace source told People.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had aides watch the series instead, the source claimed.

U.K.'s The Sunday Times also cited an unnamed source close to Prince William as saying that the heir to the British throne doesn't plan to watch the Sussexes' show.

"He says he will never watch it and I know he definitely won't," the source, whom the outlet identified as a friend of Prince William's, claimed.

Last week, Vanity Fair reported that Prince William and Middleton "refused" to watch the docuseries when it premiered on Netflix but that "aides will be watching the series closely, along with the royals' lawyers."

While the Sussexes reunited with Prince William and Princess Kate for a royal walkabout in the U.K. following Queen Elizabeth's death in September, the relationship between the two brothers reportedly remains strained.

"It will take a long time before there is harmony between the brothers," an unnamed source close to the royal household told People. "There is a lot of anger there."

In their Netflix docuseries, Prince Harry seemingly addressed the way the palace handled stories in the media about his older brother versus him, claiming that he and his wife were treated differently than Prince William.

"They were happy to lie to protect my brother," Prince Harry claimed, before adding that he and Markle were the victims of "institutional gaslighting."

"They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us," he added.

Royal expert and author Christopher Andersen previously suggested that the fact that the promotion of Prince Harry and Markle's docuseries began around the same time Prince William and Middleton were in the U.S. for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Dec. 2 likely did not help ease the tension between the brothers.

"I'm sure [William] is very, very angry at his brother and cannot understand what he's doing," the "King: The Life of King Charles III" author told Us Weekly earlier this month.

British journalist and royal commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti also questioned the timing of the release of the first trailer for "Harry & Meghan," which was dropped a day before Prince William and Middleton's green carpet event in Boston, Massachusetts.

"To drop it as they have on the first or second day of the Prince and Princess of Wales's trip to the U.S. for the Earthshot Prize shows just exactly how much they wanted to hijack that publicity," Sacerdoti told Us Weekly earlier this month. "It just shows how much they will go to any end at all for as much publicity as possible."

"Harry & Meghan" Vol. 2 was released on Netflix Thursday.
