Princess Diana once angrily declared that she doesn’t have a relationship with one member of her family.

In the book “The Queen and Di: The Untold Story,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward detailed a conversation she had with the Princess of Wales. Princess Diana told the royal expert that she never told her mom anything.

“I asked, ‘what does your mother think about the way your life is going?’ Without preamble or warning, Diana’s demeanor changed and she almost shouted back, ‘I don’t tell her anything,’” Seward said.

According to Seward, there was a period of time wherein even just the mere mention of Princess Diana’s mom’s name would send her into a frenzy. The Princess of Wales and Frances Shand Kydd had a complicated relationship with each other. In fact, Prince Charles’ ex-wife never patched things up with her mom until she passed away.

“A friend of Mrs. Shand Kydd observed, ‘Their relationship was based on love but love and hate run very close together,” Seward said.

The late royal and Kydd stopped talking to each other following a phone call from June 1997. At that time, Kydd told Princess Diana that she didn’t approve of her daughter’s relationship to Dr. Hasnat Khan. Kydd wasn’t also happy with Princess Diana’s friendship with Gulu Lalvani.

According to Princess Diana’s former royal butler Paul Burrell, Kydd called the Princess of Wales disgraceful for sleeping around with Muslim men. Following the call, Princess Diana vowed to never speak to her mom again.

“Diana was devastated by her mother’s disapproval of the men in her life. Frances loved Diana, but as her daughter, could be very impulsive and emotional. She said some very hurtful things, but she loved her daughter… I don’t think she ever got over the circumstances surrounding the princess’ death,” one friend said.

Kydd passed away on June 3, 2004, which was seven years after Princess Diana’s shocking demise.
