Princess Diana was 20 years old when she married Prince Charles, and royal fans are discussing whether or not she was too old to settle down at that time.

On the online forum site Quora, majority of the royal fans said that it is wrong to assume that the Princess of Wales was too young when she wed the heir to the throne.

Sharon Ann Cummins-Royes said that Princess Diana wasn’t too young when she tied the knot with Prince Charles, but she was quite young to be burdened with the responsibility of representing the royal family internationally. This was apparently one of the reasons why her marriage failed.

“In my opinion, she needed time to grow into the role she was expected to play, however, motherhood among other responsibilities was thrust upon her and she simply didn’t have the coping mechanisms to understand how to play that role. Her marriage was a media event televised all over the world, she’s young, beautiful, and married to a future King,” she said.

Cory Raisa, who has researched about Princess Diana, said that the mom of two wasn’t young when she settled down. Queen Elizabeth II was 21 when she married Prince Philip, and their marriage lasted.

“People too often forget that Diana had been living in her own place with three roommates and working full-time, self-supporting, and doing her own laundry and cleaning for several years before she became engaged to Charles. Diana was not some teenager still living with either of her parents and was not the only young bride in the royal family,” she said.

Holly Savage said that it wasn’t Princess Diana’s age that was the problem but the fact that she was wrong for Prince Charles. Since both of them weren’t friends and they didn’t have tons of similarities, it was impossible for their marriage to last.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles tied the knot in 1981. At that time, Prince Charles was 30 years old.
