Queen Elizabeth II could snub Prince Charles and make Prince William the new king, according to a documentary.

In the 2016 Amazon documentary “Prince William Royalty In My Family,” the narrator claimed that there’s a chance that the Queen could overlook her son for her grandson in taking over the throne.

“Royal insiders have suggested that the Queen may choose to overlook Charles, and grant William the next succession to the throne,” the narrator said. “It’s apparent that William possesses great confidence, maturity and sensitivity.”

The narrator added that when Prince Charles was at Prince William’s age the Prince of Wales appeared awkward and uncertain. Despite the speculations about Prince William taking over the throne before his father, the royal website still lists Prince Charles as the next in line to the throne. The rumors about the Duke of Cambridge being the next king isn’t new anymore.

In 2017, there were rumors that Queen Elizabeth II was ill and would be stepping down from the throne. An insider claimed that the monarch would be passing the reign to Prince William and Middleton instead of the rightful heir, Prince Charles. The were even speculations that this would happen in August. Apparently, it didn’t.

A poll from YouGov in November 2017 showed that the people prefer the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to take over the throne instead of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. Fifty-six percent favored Prince William while only 13 percent chose Prince Charles as the next king. On the other hand, 63 percent wanted Middleton to be the next queen while Camilla only got eight percent.

Despite the public’s interest in having Prince William and Middleton as the king and queen, this is still unlikely to happen. According to Majesty magazine editor Ingrid Steward, the Queen doesn’t have the power to decide who will reign after her. This is determined by their descendants. In this case, her eldest son, Prince Charles is the next in line.

In addition, Prince William reportedly has no plans of taking over the throne prior to his father. The Duke of Cambridge is not in a hurry to be the head of the state.

According to Gill Knappet, a royal biographer, Prince William is aware that he will have a shorter reign than his grandmother but “he has no desire to 'climb the ladder of kingship' before his time.”
