Queen Elizabeth II has to follow certain royal rules, too.

The members of the Firm usually travel abroad as part of their royal engagements. The Queen does the same, although she rarely travels abroad at her present age. In 2014, the monarch visited Belfast as part of her “Game of Thrones” set tour. During the said visit, Her Majesty surprised them with an unusual royal rule that she had to follow.

According to “Game of Thrones” executive producer David Benioff, they invited the Queen to sit in the Iron Throne but she declined. Queen Elizabeth II then explained the bizarre royal protocol about foreign rules.

“Apparently the Queen of England is not allowed to sit on a foreign throne,” Benioff told “Late Night” host Seth Meyers. “This is an esoteric rule we didn’t know about until that moment.”

The rule is reportedly maintained as a sign of respect to the foreign leaders. Although there are protocols that Queen Elizabeth II follows, there are also certain rules that she finds “rubbish.”

According to Michelle Obama in her explosive memoir “Becoming,” when she and former U.S. President Barack Obama visited the monarch, they were briefed how to greet the royals and told about the seating plan ahead.

The royal aides advised that Michelle sit in the front next to 97-year-old Prince Philip who would be driving the car. Meanwhile, Barack would sit next to the Queen in the back seat.

Upon arrival, Queen Elizabeth II gestured Michelle to join her in the backseat. The former first lady was reluctant and wasn’t sure how to react to the said invitation as she was not expecting it.

When Queen Elizabeth II noticed Michelle’s hesitations the royal immediately asked her if they were told about certain rules. The Queen then waved her hand while telling Michelle to dismiss it.

“That’s rubbish. Sit wherever you want,” the Queen told her.

In related news, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are living in separate homes after the Duke of Edinburgh’s retirement. However, the couple who has been married for 71 years still make time to see each other from time to time.

Prince Philip is reportedly spending the majority of his time in Wood Farm. He then visits Buckingham Palace during certain occasions.
