Queen Elizabeth II favors Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle following Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s split.

The first six members of the royal family have to ask the Queen’s permission when they decide to marry someone. Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew all did, but their first marriages didn’t work.

According to Express, Queen Elizabeth II is particularly happy about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s marriages because the brides are not direct descendents of the British aristocracy and the Duchess of York and late Princess of Wales have something to do with it.

“After seeing so many royal divorces, she now welcomes girls from less elevated backgrounds into her family,” the narrator said in the 2011 documentary “William and Kate: Into the Future.”

Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey shared her thoughts about this. According to her, after numerous royal divorces, the monarch now favors commoners.

“The Queen particularly is quite in favour of someone rather unattractively termed a commoner, because she sees middle-class girls with a good university education as a better bet than perhaps the aristocratic ‘prima donnas’ that might have been singled out for princes in the days gone by,” Tominey explained.

“Her experience with people who are less common, say Fergie, who was a commoner of sorts but yet she was this daughter of an army officer and so she probably was from the higher echelons than somebody like Kate Middleton, they’ve gone disastrously wrong,” she added.

Tominey believes that Queen Elizabeth II is happy for people who are stable and middle-class girls. Her Majesty wasn’t pleased with the Duke and Duchess of York’s split. She was particularly angry at Ferguson for initiating the split.

The Queen reportedly advised Ferguson to reconsider and be strong. However, she didn’t heed Her Majesty’s advice.

Ferguson and Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship has since improved. In fact, Ferguson might return to the royal fold as Queen Elizabeth II is still a huge fan of hers.
