Queen Elizabeth II had an unusual first impression of Prince Philip when she was just 13 years old.

In the documentary “The Majestic Life of Queen Elizabeth,” royal historian and biographer Robert Lacey said that Her Majesty was actually quite star struck when she first met the Duke of Edinburgh.

“She had met him before at family occasions, but this was the occasion when, by her own account, the spark was struck,” he said.

Royal author Phil Dampier also said that it was love at first sight for the monarch. And Royal expert Ingrid Seward added that the Queen thought Prince Philip, who was 18 at that time, was very dashing and handsome.

“She actually thought this man is wonderful, you know, as a 13-year-old could think. A handsome prince… And she never really had any affection for any other man,” she said.

Seward’s account coincided with what Lacey said in the documentary. The royal historian revealed that Prince Philip was the Queen’s first love.

“One of the most extraordinary things about the Queen is that she fell in love and married just about the first man she met. Of course, this was an exaggeration, but she met Prince Philip of Greece, as he then was in 1939 when he was a dashing naval cadet at Dartmouth Naval College,” he said.

Shortly after the couple first got into a relationship, they decided to get engaged. Prince Philip and the Queen tied the knot on Nov. 20, 1947. Even though they were madly in love with each other, they also faced some problems in their marriage.

It has been reported that the Duke of Edinburgh has a wicked sense of humor. And as such, there were instances wherein he offended his wife. The dad of four once joked about Her Majesty’s flawless skin, which didn’t sit well with the monarch.

In some occasions, the mom of four also thought that her husband was rude.
