Queen Elizabeth II has traveled across the world, and it has been revealed that she never rides the plane without this one thing.

Harriet Mallinson, a journalist for Express, that the Queen has an impressive fashion hack that prevents her skirt from flying up. The trick is needed especially when the Queen disembarks from the plane which can be a particularly gutsy experience.

Gordon Rayner, a journalist for The Telegraph, revealed that all of the monarch’s skirts are weighted. The heaviness of the skirt is what prevents it from flying up regardless of the weather.

“All of the Queen’s skirts are weighted to avoid them blowing up as she gets of airplanes,” he said.

Angela Kelly, a senior dresser, is the one responsible for planning the clothes that the Queen will wear on her royal tours. It is also her responsibility to make sure that whatever the Queen will wear won’t clash with the backdrops in her country of destination.

“Kelly will check whether the Queen will be expected to take off her shoes (in a mosque, for example) or might require a headscarf – anything that could lead to trouble if not anticipated,” Rayner said.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have also employed a fashion hack that prevents their skirts from flying up in public. However, since the Duchesses wear more modern pieces, their skirts are not weighted.

Myka Meier, an etiquette expert, told Cosmopolitan that the two women wear body suits during their public engagements.

“Often they wear body suits and clothes that actually increase static so it’s much harder for something to fly up. So you have an undergarment that is almost like a body suit that is one tactic that is used. If you do not use weights or heavy-weighted material, you make sure it will not fly up by wearing undergarments that keep the fabrics connected to your body,” she said.

But during Princess Eugenie’s windy royal wedding, Middleton flashed her thighs when the wind blew her skirt up. It is unclear if she was wearing the bodysuit at that time.
