The latest smartphone trend is the “foldable display” design, but Apple has yet to show their take on this. Apple seems unlikely to release a new device with this type of display to keep up with the competition. Here’s why Apple is going to delay their iPhone X Fold this 2019.

The “foldable display” smartphone race has started with companies like Samsung, Royole, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo, which all staked their places in the recent tech shows this year. So far, Samsung and Huawei have already confirmed that they’ll launch their foldable devices later this year, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, respectively.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi and Oppo are still working  on their prototypes and announced that they’ll show their devices once they are ready.

Royole, on the other hand, started early with the FlexPai device, which is now available to pre-order. The race has started, but Apple has remained tightlipped about their upcoming devices this year.

According to Apple’s announcement in CES 2019, the company is focused on improving their services on all smart devices. Device progress was only vaguely confirmed in the recent Apple event in Cupertino this month.

Apple head Tim Cook said that they’re currently preparing devices that’ll surprise their fans, which could mean that another innovative device from this company is going to be released soon. Cook didn’t confirm any details about the upcoming phones and iPads, which has left fans guessing about what Apple is planning to do.

As for a 2019 release of an iPhone X Fold, it seems unlikely as Apple has never rushed a device to follow a trend and usually focuses only on innovating their existing lines. According to Wired, Apple buys screen parts from Samsung and LG but adds their own optimization to these parts, which makes Apple products high quality.

However, this could be a potential problem as these new and trendy devices might come with expensive price tags as they are the first of their kind. Apple is known to have some of the most expensive smartphones and smart devices as the company knows the value of their innovation.

For now, we’ll have to wait for Apple to update fans about their 2019 devices to see if they’ll join the trend or make their own again.
