  • Ready-to-eat Ox & Palm Corned Beef have been subjected to a recall
  • The FSIS found out that the products were not inspected at the port-of-entry
  • Those who still have the affected products are advised not to eat them

Milky Way International Trading is recalling about 297,715 pounds of ready-to-eat Ox & Palm Corned Beef that did not undergo the required reinspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The products were imported into the U.S. from June 6, 2020, to Jan. 21 this year, the FSIS said in the recall notice. The agency found out about the issue when it received a tip from an industry representative.

The FSIS is responsible for making sure that the meat, poultry and egg products in the country, whether domestic or imported, are "safe, wholesome, and accurately labeled." For imported meat products, the countries that bring the products in are required to have an inspection system that's "equivalent" to those in the U.S.

The FSIS checks these foreign inspection systems at the port-of-entry, where an FSIS inspector also has to reinspect the products before they can enter the country.

In the case of the canned corned beef subjected to the recall, the products bear "Australia Inspected" number "39" but did not undergo the required reinspection.

According to the FSIS, the canned goods were distributed to various retail locations across the country. To date, no illnesses related to the recall have been reported, but the FSIS encourages those who may still have the product at home not to eat them.

"Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider," the FSIS said.

Images of the affected products' labels and packaging may be found here, while the specific marks to determine the affected products are available here. The latter includes the product variations, which include Original, Chili Garlic and Onion. The recall also affects round cans of "Ox & Palm Sita Cam Pie Luncheon Loaf."

The FSIS classified this as a Class I recall, which means that there is a "reasonable probability" of serious adverse health consequences upon consuming the product.

Those with questions about the recall may contact Ramita Garviso of MW Polar via info@mwpolar.com or (562) 921-2800, Ext. 160.

Only recently, over 98,000 pounds of beef tallow products from The People's Republic of China were subjected to a recall for also not undergoing the required FSIS reinspection.
