A British couple who perched on a dangerous cliff edge Saturday with their child in violation of coronavirus restrictions in the U.K. prompted calls for police and the coastguard to come to their rescue.

Two adults and one child were reportedly found in a tent along the Cleveland Way in North Yorkshire, an area prone to recurring landslides.

Staithes and Whitby Coastguard were called to the coastline's stretch, where they were spotted inside a blue tent. The officials gave them "safety advice due to the dangerous location of their tent," HM Coastguard NE said in a Facebook post, which entailed pictures of the blue tent sitting on a cliff.

Police were also called to the spot because the couple, by getting there, had breached U.K.’s national COVID-19 safety rules, which doesn’t permit people to stay outside home overnight unless for essential purposes.

"Today’s call was to attend a section of the Cleveland Way to issue safety advice to two adults and a child camping on the cliff edge. An Officer from North Yorkshire Police also attended due to breach of coronavirus restrictions," the post added.

The coastguard also urged people to reach out to them if they find anyone in trouble near the area. "Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. You could save someone’s life! " the post added.

"If walking the Cleveland Way, please stay on designated footpaths," BBC quoted a Staithes Coastguard as saying.

The pictures of the blue tent that came with the Facebook post were widely shared online, while the post itself gathered over 100 comments as of Monday. In the comment section, Facebook users took jibes on the couple for putting the child’s life in danger.

"Shouldn't have kids if that stupid, " one person wrote. " Idiots crumbling cliff all over the place and there take a child with them are irresponsible adults, " wrote another.
