Today's cancel culture is brutal, but Ricky Gervais isn't scared at all. In fact, he wants to "get canceled" over his upcoming stand-up show, "Armageddon," which is expected to spark controversy.

"One thing I've decided to definitely do, and can't wait to start on, is my new stand-up show," New York Post quoted him as saying Monday.

Though the 60-year-old comedian clarified that it won't be his final stand-up show, he emphasized that he wanted to pour everything into it, saying, "I'm treating it like it's my last one ever."

"I want to try and get canceled. No, I just want to go all out there," he added.

It appears the comedian is really willing to take risks and test the limits of comedy, considering his recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, during which he shared his thoughts about comedy and the subjects comedians can explore.

"There's no subject you shouldn't joke about," he explained. "It depends on the joke. As a journalist, there's nothing you wouldn't write about. It depends on your angle, right? I think a lot of this pious offense comes from people mistaking the target of the joke with the subject."

He also said that one should be able to make jokes on anything they want, granted that they know their actual target.

"If you use irony and people see that at face value and think you're saying one thing but you're actually saying the opposite," he said further.

"Armageddon" is about the "end of the world" and how humans are destroying themselves for a lot of reasons, including "media stupidity," as per the actor. Other details about the show are not yet available online.

Gervais is popularly known for his comedy show "The Office," which ran from 2001 to 2003. He also hosted Golden Globes five times — in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.

The comedian also lent his voice to the animated family movie "Blazing Samurai," which is slated to release on July 22. The film was written by Ed Stone and Nate Hopper and directed by Rob Minkoff and Mark Koetsie.

Gervais will be next seen in the TV series "Greenlight - German Genius," which is currently under post-production. He will voice Mole's character in the movie "The Wind in the Willows" as well.
