  • Tindall said he and his teammate Iain Balshaw threw some punches at Prince Harry to test his bodyguards

Mike Tindall shared a light-hearted comment about his cousin-in-law, Prince Harry, in his recent speech at an event.

Tindall spoke at the A Question of Sport Live event in London Tuesday. He jokingly said that the royal family wanted to throw a few punches at the Duke of Sussex after his recent behavior.

Tindall's statement was made months after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey for a CBS special that aired in March. During their interview, Prince Harry made several allegations against the royal family, including being cut off financially after Megxit and having to deal with a member who allegedly raised concern over his son's skin color.

"At Balmoral, the family are now having the same conversation," he jokingly said as quoted by Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden before adding, "Except the Queen has taken his security away."

Tindall, who is married to Prince Harry's cousin Zara Tindall, also mentioned the "assault" between him and Prince Harry in the past. It happened when they were celebrating England's 2003 Rugby World Cup win in Sydney. Prince Harry was present at the celebration. Tindall and his then-teammate Iain Balshaw thought it would be amazing to test how responsive Prince Harry's bodyguards were, so they threw some punches at the royal and it only took a few seconds for the duke's security to pin them to the ground.

The former English rugby union player had never mentioned the assault before. However, he alluded to it last year when he appeared on a podcast with England star James Haskell to talk about how he would be depicted on "The Crown."

"That has to be the main incident if it was there — the full Harry slap," Tindall said. "They don't even know about that. Now you've revealed that," Haskell chimed in.

Prince Harry and Markle just visited New York City to attend Global Live Citizen. Their visit was just similar to Prince William and Kate Middleton's tour in the Big Apple in 2014. However, the British tabloids had a different reaction toward the Sussexes. Insider noted that the U.K. press criticized Prince Harry and Markle for the same reason they celebrated the Cambridges.

Markle's unnamed pal spoke with Omid Scobie for Harper's Bazaar and said that the U.K. tabloids' comments do not bother the Duke and Duchess of Sussex anymore.

"The tabloids will do as the tabloids do," the unnamed source said. "Only difference now is that they really don’t pay attention to it. It doesn’t penetrate their world."
