KEY POINTS

  • The release date of Xbox Series X may have been leaked
  • Microsoft's latest console is initially slated for a Holiday 2020 release
  • A leak from an Xbox product page says Xbox Series X will be arriving on Thanksgiving

A new Xbox product page may have just leaked the possible release date of Microsoft’s latest gaming console, the Xbox Series X.

Previous rumors suggest that the Xbox Series X might be available for purchase after fall 2020 – assuming that it will not be affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, a leak showed that the high-end gaming console will be launched by Thanksgiving 2020.

Gaming site GameRant had a screenshot of the alleged announcement from the Xbox product page. The image shows the Xbox Series X logo with the words “Coming Thanksgiving 2020” highlighted.

While it seems plausible that the console will be released on exactly Thanksgiving on November 26, it is possible that it only means it will be released in November and not much later than Thanksgiving.

Interestingly though, Larry Hryb -- Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network Xbox Live – denied the rumor on Twitter and emphasized that the plan is for the Xbox Series X to launch by Holiday 2020.

“An Xbox product page in some regions inaccurately listed the launch date for Xbox Series X as Thanksgiving 2020. We are committed to launching Holiday 2020,” said Hyrb, who is popularly known for his gamer tag Major Nelson.

Xbox Series X has been highly anticipated for some time now, especially after initial leaks revealed that it is set to be more powerful than the upcoming PlayStation 5 of Sony.

Sure enough, the anticipation for the Microsoft gaming console only heightened when Sony unveiled the hardware specifications of its PS5 that seems to be lacking in some areas compared to the Xbox Series X.

For what it’s worth, the Xbox Series X has a 1TB SSD, while PS5 is only set at 825GB SSD. The former also has a CPU that will run at 3.8GHz.

Microsoft was initially set to hold E3 2020 on June 9 to 11. However, it has since been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In its place, Microsoft's executive VP of gaming for Xbox Phil Spencer revealed that they will hold a digital event.

“E3 has always been an important moment for Team Xbox. Given this decision, this year we'll celebrate the next generation of gaming with the @Xbox community and all who love to play via an Xbox digital event. Details on timing and more in the coming weeks,” Spencer wrote on Twitter.

While there is no exact date yet when the digital event will take place, fans are hoping that Microsoft will provide the official launch of the Xbox Series X on the said occasion.
