Many consumers are faced with empty shelves of toilet paper as some shoppers panicked and stockpiled rolls of the paper product as fears of the coronavirus grew. But some Americans have a different idea that is sending sales of bidets soaring.

The bathroom fixture that cleans through water jets eliminates the need to have massive quantities of toilet paper on hand. This has created increased sales over the last few days as consumers look to outfit their bathroom with the mostly European fixture.

According to Business Insider, home product company Brondell is selling a bidet on Amazon every two minutes or about 1,000 units per day. In one day, this week, the company earned $100,000 in sales just from bidets, the news outlet said.

“As the toilet paper wars have raged on we've seen a large and vocal community of passionate bidet advocates stepping up to promote the benefits and hygiene of washing with water,” Steven Scheer, president at Brondell, told the news outlet.

Brondell isn’t alone in its sales spike of bidets as Tushy, a startup Bidet company, has also reportedly seen an increase in demand. Revenue from bidets has tripled for the company in the past week, Crunchbase reported.

As the demand for toilet paper continues to surge, many retailers have limited the number of essential items that can be bought to prevent consumers from stockpiling items in fear of being quarantined or locked down during the coronavirus pandemic.
