  • George Rivera claims the "Glee" creator's promises were fake
  • Netizens bashed the creators on social media
  • Ryan Murphy says he is still "committed" to his promise

Ryan Murphy denied claims made by the father of late actress Naya Rivera that he broke a promise that he would help Naya's son, Josey Dorsey, following the tragic boating incident at Lake Piru in California in which the "Glee" actress died in July 2020.

The boy was found sleeping and wearing a life jacket by investigators after he and his mother had gone swimming during their boat outing. He got back onto the boat, but Rivera didn't.

"Myself, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan have committed to create a college fund for Naya Rivera’s child Josey through the Naya Rivera Estate Trust," Murphy, 55, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday in order to set the record straight. "We have been in repeated conversations with the appropriate executors of her estate."

Naya's father, George Rivera, posted a series of tweets on Tuesday claiming that the "Glee" creator didn't connect with his family following the tragedy.

"Everyone needs to know what Ryan Murphy really did ... or didn’t do !!! I’m about to blow up this story .... and make sure he’s knows that I know," he replied to a tweet that praised the show’s creators for the college fund announcement.

"When you are part of the Hollywood elite, some people treat others as they are “less than” .... vocalize a good game, but it’s as shallow as the sets on stage, that they create," George tweeted. "Promises made in public, only to fade with time and excuses .... even in a unexplainable tragedy ..."

George noted that promises were broken, Murphy's outrage was fake, his gestures were hollow, and there were no phone calls following the death of his daughter.

Twitter users started to bash Murphy following George's accusations. One of the users wrote that "Ryan once again proves to be a person without character, but know that we are with you and your family, naya was an incredible human being and everything in our power, we will help in some way, count on us."

The creators of "Glee" announced that they will create a college fund for her son.

"We are heartbroken over the loss of our friend Naya Rivera. Naya wasn’t a series regular when we cast her on Glee," Murphy, Falchuk, and Brennan said in a joint statement. The long emotional statement concluded with this promise: "The three of us are currently in the process of creating a college fund for the beautiful son Naya loved most of all."
