Salem
Salem said goodbye to The Sentinel in “Salem” Season 3, episode 8. WGN America

WGN America’s “Salem” premiered an episode with a shocking end. Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) finally rid the world of the devil (Oliver Bell) in episode 7 but Black Sunday is far from over. The Sentinel (Samuel Roukin) is determined to scorch the Earth using red mercury.

What happened in episode 8? Here are the highlights of “Friday’s Knights”:

Dorcas Gets Abducted By Mercy

Did Isaac (Iddo Goldberg) really think that he could get away with threatening Mercy Lewis (Elise Eberle) and slowly becoming more powerful than Governor Hathorne (Jeremy Crutchley) without consequences? “Salem” Season 3, episode 8 kicked off with Mercy kidnapping sweet and innocent Dorcas (Emma Claire Wynn) while they were asleep in the barn. The witch used her dead mother’s voice to lure her away from Isaac and into her arms. She then caged her in her room at the brothel.

Sebastian Now Knows How Mary Feels About Him

The devil may be dead but Black Sunday still looms large. The Sentinel plans to continue his brother’s plan to destroy Earth. However, he wants his fallen angels and brothers to walk on Earth beside him.

Isaac, Mary, John Alden (Shane West), Sebastian (Joe Doyle) and Cotton Mather (Seth Gabel) meet in order to make a plan that can kill The Sentinel. Alden informs them that he has a weapon that can kill the fallen angel. He made it using Tituba’s (Ashley Madekwe) instructions.

Five of Salem’s finest plan to lure The Sentinel away from the house and stab him using the dagger. Cotton volunteers to get him away from the house and Alden promises to stab him. The plan is set in motion.

Meanwhile, Sebastian is still unsure if Mary loves him or is just pretending to do so. He changes his appearance to match Alden’s and speaks like him. Then, Sebastian/John Alden meets Mary and tells her he forgives her for sleeping with Sebastian. Mary is happy to know that. But then John/Sebastian asks her if she ever felt any feelings of affection towards the Count. “Not a drop,” she replies. That’s enough for him to know that she only loves John.

The Sentinel Has Fun

In order to lure The Sentinel away from the castle, Cotton suggests that he should get to know humanity before destroying it. The Sentinel agrees to see what the world is outside the walls of the Sibley mansion.

We learn two crucial things about The Sentinel: He loves oranges and gin. Cotton gets him drunk on gin and suggests that he has sex with a woman in order to better understand why humans are such lustful creatures. He enjoys his time frolicking in a bathtub with a young prostitute.

Meanwhile, Mercy and Hathrone get married with Mather’s help.

Drunk and high on lust, The Sentinel leaves the brothel and watches a group of men drinking. Alden sees this as an opportunity to finally stabs him. It takes a lot of stabbing for The Sentinel to die.

Before his death, the fallen angel entrusted a device fitted with red mercury to none other than barber/surgeon Thomas Dinley (Marilyn Manson). When the clock strikes on Sunday, the device would automatically release the red mercury and everyone in Salem would be turned to ash.

Only Sebastian knows the location of this device. Mary visits Tituba to learn the location of the device but she doesn’t know where it is. However, she promises to use her cat to search for it.

“Salem” viewers learn that Tituba is the one who took the devil’s corpse. She is trying to patch him back since he promised her something. Mary visits Tituba for the location of the device and does not see her son’s corpse.

The Devil Tries To Get Out Of Hell

The devil isn’t dead. His body is gone but the king of hell still exists in hell. Remember the door in the Sibley mansion? It is a doorway to hell. The devil can easily come back to Earth if the door is opened. Fortunately, it is locked.

However, the devil tries to get Anne Hale (Tamzin Merchant) to open the door using her magic. Thank God Cotton arrived just in time to stop her. Next, he tries, rather unsuccessfully, to get Sebastian to open the door.

Is Mary Dead?

Sebastian is angry. Mary played him. She never loved him, only used him to get what she wanted. The Countess urges Sebastian to make Mary pay for using him. He agrees. She then asks him to hand over the rest of her blood. After Sebastian gives it to her and she devours it, Mary is seen feeling dizzy and finally fainting. Is she dead?

“Salem” Season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on WGN America. There are only two episodes left in the series to air.
