Samsung’s lineup of flagship smartphones introduced a design language, which will soon be adopted by its mid-range line. The company’s 2018 Galaxy A series will be getting that same redesign treatment and leaked renders may have already given fans a look at the new Galaxy A5.

Renders of the 2018 Galaxy A5 was leaked to SamMobile by a smartphone case manufacturer. The renders show off all of the new color options that will be available for the Galaxy A5 2018. Most importantly however, the leaked renders appear to be showing off what the new smartphone will look like.

Like the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8, the Galaxy A5 2018 is shown as having an Infinity Display. The major difference here is that the Infinity Display on the new Galaxy A5 doesn’t actually curve to the sides. The great thing about the addition of this display is that the new Galaxy A5 comes with very thin bezels.

Since the new Galaxy A5 2018 comes with thin bezels, the phone’s fingerprint scanner is now mounted on the back of the handset just beneath the camera module. This is the first Galaxy A series smartphone to have its fingerprint scanner on the back. It also appears to be the first handset that fixes the awkward fingerprint scanner placement that has been criticized on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

Even though Samsung appears to have placed the fingerprint scanner in a much more comfortable area, the company is sticking to it’s pill-shaped sensor. The left edge of the phone is populated by the volume buttons and what can only be assumed as the dedicated Bixby button. Meanwhile, the right side of the phone appears to only have the power button.

Aside from the distinct shape of the fingerprint scanner, the inclusion of the Bixby button and the obvious Samsung branding, the 2018 Galaxy A5’s appearance up front is pretty similar to the LG G6.

These case renders for the 2018 Galaxy A5 aren’t an official unveiling of the upcoming smartphone. It’s very possible that this might not even be the final design of the phone. However, these leaked images of the phone also seem to match Steve Hemmerstoffer’s (@OnLeaks) CAD renders from last month.

As for specs, the Galaxy A5 2018 is expected to come with a full HD+ 2,160 x 1,080 5.5-inch Infinity Display. It’s rumored to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7885 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The Western version of handset might possibly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Other rumored features of the upcoming Samsung smartphone is an Always On Display, IP68 water and dust resistance rating, Samsung Pay and a USB Type-C port. The 3.5mm headphone port is also expected to return since Samsung hasn’t abandoned it yet for the Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

Although there’s no confirmation yet, the Galaxy A5 is expected to be announced sometime in January 2018 alongside the Galaxy A7. Both the A5 and A7 will share all of the same internal specs, but the latter will have larger 6-inch Infinity Display.
