A school teacher allegedly fractured an eight-year-old student’s leg by beating him with a stick inside his classroom. The incident took place in Bangalore city in Karnataka, India, on Thursday.

After noticing that their son had returned home with bruises on his hands and legs, the parents of the boy filed a complaint at the police station. When asked about his bruises, the boy mentioned the name of the teacher, identified as Chaitra. She was reportedly filling in and taking a class on behalf of a regular teacher who was on leave.

The teacher had reportedly beat the child for not paying attention in the classroom. She had asked the students to writes notes in their diaries, however, when she found out that the victim was writing notes for a different subject, she pulled him out of the bench and beat him with the stick.

An x-ray examination showed the victim had suffered a hairline fracture on his right leg, below the knee.

The boy’s father, identified as Naveen Kumar, said he contacted the school’s chairman who spoke to him rudely regarding the incident. Kumar also said he visited the jurisdictional Block Education Officer (BEO) to complain about the school and the teacher.

“My son was only finishing his Kannada notes,” his father said, adding that the school’s chairman had called up and “abused” the teacher after the complaint was filed.

“But to this day, no one from the school has come to our house to see the condition of my son. I don’t mind teachers beating students when they are in class 7 or 8, but my son is in the third grade. They should be sensitive to such small children,” he said.

An officer from the regional police station said a case for assault was opened. No charges were filed against her yet. The teacher along with the members of the school management was scheduled to be questioned on Monday.
