David Arquette opened up about working with his ex-wife Courteney Cox on the highly anticipated fifth installment of the popular horror franchise, "Scream."

"It’s a cathartic experience to just be able to act opposite Courteney,” Arquette told New York Times in an article published Thursday. "It’s been 25 years of our lives. We’ve grown up together. We have a child together."

Arquette and Cox were married from 1999 to 2013. The former couple has a 17-year-old daughter named Coco.

The 50-year-old actor also shares two kids - Charlie West, 7, and Augustus Alexis, 4 with his wife, journalist Christina McLarty. Cox, on the other hand, is dating singer Johnny McDaid since 2013.

The 57-year-old "Friends" star, who also joined Arquette during the interview, noted that the actor became very emotional when they began filming the recent installment of the "Scream" franchise.

"He said the next day the crew didn’t look at him," Cox recalled while Arquette added, "I could tell some people aren’t comfortable with that level of emotion."

"Scream" revolves around a new killer who wears the same Ghostface mask, first shown 25 years ago, to kill teenagers. However, the old victims come forward to save those teenagers. The movie is slated to release on Jan. 14.

Cox, who played the role of Gale in the movie, is all set to revive her character. Arquette will also reprise his character named Dwight 'Dewey' Riley. Neve Campbell, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison and Kyle Gallner will also feature in the movie.

Paramount Pictures dropped a special video in December 2021 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1996 movie "Scream."

On the work front, Arquette will be next seen in a drama movie, "On Sacred Ground," which is expected to release this year. He will also feature in a movie, "The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry," which is based on a book of the same name penned by Gabrielle Zevin. He will also appear in a time travel movie, "The Boardinghouse Reach," which is under post-production.

Apart from the big screen, the actor will also appear in a comedy TV series, "Hot Pink," alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Lacono and Myra Molloy.
