Willie Garson died of cancer, according to his obituary.

Garson died Tuesday afternoon while surrounded by his family. He was 57.

The late actor's family didn't reveal the cause of his death at the time of his passing. But according to reports, he battled cancer prior to his demise.

His cancer battle was confirmed by his family in his obituary, which was released days after he passed away.

"The cause was pancreatic cancer," his obituary read.

Garson's son Nathen paid tribute to him on Instagram. Garson adopted Nathen in 2010. They first met at an adoption fair in Los Angeles in 2008; Nathen was only 7 years old at the time.

"I love you so much papa. Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much. I’m so proud of you," Nathen wrote.

Garson's 20-year-old son expressed his love for his dad and acknowledged that he had to let him go. "I think it's time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You'll always be with me." He added that he's glad his dad can now be at peace.

"You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared your love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it," Nathen concluded his tribute.

In a previous interview with People, Garson said he didn't care if he would get married or not, but he just wanted a child. When he saw Nathen at the adoption fair, he knew that he was meant to be his child.

"I was like, 'That's my kid,' " he told the outlet. "I knew it right then."

Garson was best known for his role in "Sex and the City" as Stanford Blatch, Carrie Bradshaw's (Jessica Sarah Parker) best male friend. He was a fan-favorite throughout the show's six-year run. Garson is also part of the upcoming reboot "And Just Like That."

His "Sex and the City" co-stars paid tribute to him after learning about his death.

"So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him," Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes in the series, wrote on Twitter. "He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always."

Kristin Davis, who portrays Charlotte York in the original series and spinoff films, recalled meeting Garson in 1995 on the "spooky nighttime set of the 'X-Files.'" According to her, he immediately made her laugh and she didn't know at the time they would be working and sharing the same joy on "Sex and the City" and its spinoff projects.

"Willie is beloved by our entire community. He was smarter and funnier than you ever would have imagined. We are bereft without him," Davis was quoted by Us Weekly as saying.
