“Shadowhunters” ended its series finale last night on a happy note for most of its characters and even a hopeful note for soulmates Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood).

While most of the Freeform show’s storylines wrapped up fairly nicely, the final Clace scene left a nice opening should the series ever get a revival. But would McNamara ever want to return to the show and reprise her demon-hunting role?

“I would always love to go back to Clary. I mean, when you pour so much of yourself into a character for so many years, they become a part of you, and you become a part of them,” the actress told International Business Times at New York Comic Con in October. “And there’s a little piece of you that will be in that character, and there’s a little piece of that character that I’ll always carry with me for the rest of my life, no matter what I do. And especially because the time in my life in which I was playing Clary, I grew up.”

McNamara and Clary went through a “parallel process,” which is why the Shadowhunter will always have a special place in the 23-year-old’s heart. And why she would never close the door on playing her again.

“Clary was thrust into a world that she knew nothing about, had to find her feet, had to figure out how to be a fighter, be a soldier, be a leader, all of these, and I had to do the exact same thing,” the “Arrow” star told IBT. “I was thrown into a TV show that I knew nothing about, with all of this responsibility of the fandom behind it, with all of the source material, everything, and I had to find my footing. And, just like Clary, I was lucky enough to have an amazing family and an amazing team around me, where we could all figure it out together.”

After doing three seasons of “Shadowhunters” and helping the show earn a major fanbase, it’s safe to say McNamara was able to find her footing. She knows all of the ins and outs of Clary and doesn’t expect that understanding to ever go away, but could she ever get the chance to put it to use again in a “Shadowhunters” revival?

It’s not impossible, according to executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, it’s just not very likely.

“I think we’re all kind of going onto other things, but having said that – you never say never,” Slavkin told Entertainment Tonight. “What I wouldn’t rule out and what I don’t think is impossible is doing, like, a future movie. Where you could get everyone together for a few weeks and do like a two-hour, or a four-hour, or a limited six-episode thing. Maybe with the same cast, but you never know. Weird thing happen in today’s TV world.”

Swimmer added to the outlet, “The only reason that it seems like it would be a long shot to [continue this show] in this permutation is that everything has been disassembled. The sets have been sold, and all the props, and that stuff [is gone.] It’s not like we could ever come back and just continue it where it is. It would be starting from scratch.”
