Shawn Mendes was taught some important lessons by Justin Bieber about navigating life in the spotlight while working together on his song, "Monster."

In his recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the "Señorita" singer, 22, got candid about working with Bieber, 26, and shared what he learned from his fellow Canadian crooner about handling fame, which is also the subject of their duet.

"He's gone through a lot and I feel like he's really come out on the other end in a place where he realizes how much of a blessing it is to do what we do for a living," Mendes told ET of the "Yummy" singer.

"And on top of that, he also realizes that there is darkness and there's heavy things that happen in our career," he continued. "But the truth is that in any industry it's the same thing. And I feel like from him, there's this constant conversation of like, 'I'm grateful, we're blessed, look at what's going on around us.'"

Mendes shared that he constantly reminds himself to never take things for granted.

"And I even woke up this morning and I had a lot on my schedule and I reminded myself like, 'Oh, all I'm doing is getting on a Zoom call to be like I made an album about things that I love. And talk about things that mean something to me,'" he said. "And really, comparatively to what I could be doing, I'm doing something that is from heaven."

When Mendes wrote "Monster" three years ago, he had been "feeling a lot [of] pressure [about] who I was in a relationship with and [people] wanting to push me into this box."

Mendes noted that he, along with many others, is under a lot of societal pressure that came with the popularity of social media. He added that people are no longer allowed to "keep learning or to fall," an issue he feels is not being talked about enough nowadays.

Meanwhile, Bieber shared a photo of him with Mendes on Instagram last month following the release of the "Monster" music video on Nov. 19, along with a special shoutout for his collaborator.

"What a great human being! @shawnmendes thanks for letting me be on this song with you," Bieber wrote.

Mendes replied, "You’re the kindest! Thank YOU for being so kind and loving."

In a separate interview, Mendes also opened up about how his girlfriend, Camila Cabello, changed him and why he no longer feels alone.

The singer admitted that there was a time when he felt isolated because he did not keep in touch with the people in his life. But Cabello, who has always been close with her family and friends, inspired him to reach out to them, allowing him to develop a closer bond with his loved ones.

Mendes dropped his fourth studio album, "Wonder," Friday.
