A 17-month-old boy in Malaysia died after being bitten by a snake inside his home. The child was playing with his 3-year-old brother when the reptile bit him.

The victim's mother was also inside the bedroom of their home in Rembau when the incident took place. Rembau district police chief Hazri Mohamad identified the victim as Muhammad Danial Iqwan Muhammad, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Authorities said the victim's mother realized something had happened to her son only after he began screaming in pain. The mother saw a snake slithering into a hole in the room, and she immediately examined her son. The police said in a statement the mother found snake bite marks on her son's left palm. The victim's toddler brother was unharmed.

The baby was rushed to the Rembau Hospital for treatment immediately, but he died later on Saturday.

After the mother was informed about her child's death, she came to a police station to file a report, local media My Metro reported. [Google Translate showed]

It remains unclear if anyone else was at home at the time of the incident. Local media and the police did not reveal the type of snake that bit the baby.

In March, an 11-foot-long snake was pulled out of a toilet bowl after biting a man's buttock while he went to the washroom in Malaysia. Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Department crew arrived at a home in Gelang Patah and found a huge python inside the toilet. The snake was removed from the house and released outside. While the reptile was found in March, images were shared in April on Facebook by the fire department showing the snake inside the toilet bowl. The reptile was so big that it broke some of the piping in the toilet, local media reported. "The python was successfully caught using a snake pole and has since been released from the housing area. Snakes usually come out during this hot season to spot for cool and wet spots," Khairi Zainudin, the chief of the fire station, said at the time.
