A woman in England had the shock of her life when a snake slithered out of a vent in her kitchen while she was cooking dinner.

Haylie McGregor from Coventry "freaked out" when she saw the snake hanging near the wall. According to Coventry Live, McGregor was preparing the meal in her Holbrooks home when she spotted the reptile. McGregor stopped doing her work and rushed to call her boyfriend Rob.

"I was just dishing up dinner. I looked up and a snake was hanging out of a kitchen vent in the wall," she told Coventry Live. "I went and told Rob 'there's a snake in the kitchen! Please go and check to make sure I'm not seeing things."

"So he went in and said 'Oh my god there is a snake in there' and I just went in to panic mode. Rob was just laughing but I was freaking out," she added.

McGregor said after seeing her freak out, her boyfriend tried and managed to get the reptile in a box. While he was removing the reptile, McGregor began googling "what do you do if you find a snake in your home."

"Google came up with all sorts of options, pest control for offices and stuff like that, but in the end I decided on the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) wild life option," she explained. "The first women we spoke to said to put it in an outbuilding so we put the box in the shed, but they then said it could be too cold and if we would to bring it into the house," Coventry Live reported.

McGregor said she put a blanket around the box in the shed so that her dogs did not notice the snake. The RSPCA arrived the next day to take the reptile. During the visit, RSPCA officials identified it as a corn snake.

“Many of the snakes that the RSPCA’s officers are called to collect are thought to be escaped pets," a representative said. “The RSPCA would always recommend owners invest in an enclosure suitable for the particular species and that the enclosure is kept secure (and locked if necessary) when unattended to prevent accidental escape."

Corn snakes are non-venomous, but they bite if confronted. These snakes are named for the pattern on their belly scales that resembles maize. Corn snakes are said to be good climbers and escape artists, according to Petco. An adult grows up to 4 to 6 feet long.
